Skins Series 2 Boxset - Out Now!
The second series of Skins is out to buy as of today. Click on the image below to purchase from Amazon.co.uk:

It’s been six months since Tony’s collision with a bus – remarkably he isn’t dead, but he sure isn’t the same person. Sid can’t get his head around the fact that his best mate is a shadow of the man he’s always looked up to. And to top it off he finally got the girl, Cassie, only to have her whisked off to Scotland. Sod’s law. But to Cassie it’s totally OK, one day she’ll come back and they’ll live happily ever after - yeah right.

Michelle is lost without Tony too, and her Mum has gone and married yet another man – but this time there’s a step-sister involved who’s intent on trying to make a move on her mates. Maxxie’s got hell at home too because his Dad doesn’t want him to follow his dream of being a dancer. Even Anwar has changed since he bagged himself a secret girlfriend called Sketch. Jal is throwing off the good girl image and letting her hair down. And Chris – well getting expelled wasn’t his finest hour – but now the party animal is stepping out on his own. And while all around is falling apart, it’s Tony’s little sister Effy who’s taking control.

Features:

- Behind the scenes including interviews with cast & crew (exclusive to DVD)

- Skins Secret Party and behind the scenes of the secret party

- 5 bonus Skins stories (Cassandra, Christmas with Skins, Audition Day, Tony & Sid, Maxxie’s Love Life)

Guardian Interview with Joseph Dempsie - Is This It?
He played Chris, the coolest kid in Skins, but will Joe Dempsie get through the credit crunch with enough cash to keep buying fried chicken?

Where's your head at?

It's a bit of a mess, I went to the Baftas last night and I was an hour late because of the trains. We'd already lost by the time I got there.

Is there something I should know?

Erm, erm. .. (long pause) if ... you ... have chicken... anywhere near me I will steal it from you. I don't actually think I eat anything else apart from chicken. I do like other stuff, but I think I've eaten it every day at some point for the last five years. My favourite chicken restaurant is Nando's - it's basically the posher KFC - a happy medium. I think I've found my level. If there was a very high-class chicken joint, if it was a special occasion, I might stretch to it. The night we actually win the Bafta maybe.

Are friends electric?

Er ... yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The guys on Skins aren't electric but sometimes I wish they were, 'cause if they were you could turn them off for a bit. Dev, who plays Anwar, might have undiagnosed ADD. Our lights died because he was taking up all the electricity.

Who is he and what is he to you?

When you play a character like Chris for so long in a show that's had a surprising amount of success, you get quite fond of him. It's impossible to be completely separate from a character; there are always certain bits of you in there. I think I share his eternal optimism and, whether it's misguided or not, I always think that everything will be all right.

Who's that girl?

That girl is Larissa Wilson and she plays (Chris's girfriend) Jal. She helped him settle down; he'd turned a big corner when he died. This season of Skins was kind of dark; some of the fans said, "It's all got a bit heavy and it's not as funny," but it had to be. The first one was about messing around and the second about growing up.

Do you realise that everyone you know someday will die?

It's something I try not to think about too often. Hopefully they can find a way to preserve Mike Bailey (who plays Sid in Skins) so he can live on forever. It'd be a shame if future generations didn't feel the benefit of Mike; he's got so much to give. Also, I wasn't surprised when I found out they were replacing all the cast. They had to move it on because it was set in a sixth form college. Do you start following people off to university? It wouldn't be the same. Saved By The Bell: The College Years is a prime example of that! There's no chance of a comeback anyway, unless they're really struggling for ideas.

How clean is your house?

I'd say it's ordered mess. It's a mess but I know where everything is. I'm still at home with my parents. They leave me to it - it's my lair...

Dude, where's my car?

I wish I could drive ... I don't ... Car? Sorry, I can't really function today.

Where have all the good times gone?

The good times are still rolling! Obviously the credit crunch has put paid to a lot of people's good times but I don't have a mortgage, so I'm not really affected by anything. I'm using the money I would be spending to party.

How long has this been going on?

Oh, for a good five years.

Deal or no deal?

Erm, deal.

Why?

Why? Because they always get less than they should on the programme.

Is this it?

Er ... probably

Joe Dempsie at the Beyond the Rave launch party
Joe Dempsie attended the lauch party for Beyond the Rave, a new Hammer Horror film that will be making its debut on myspace in a series of webisodes.

Joe Dempsie has blasted indie rockers Foals for dismissing the significance of their appearance on the TV show. Dempsie argued that Foals were given a leg-up by performing on the Channel 4 drama series and said the Oxford rockers' attitude had got the cast's "backs up".

He told NME: "They may deny it, but Foals did very well out of appearing in the episode we did on MySpace last summer.

"I think they're great, but they seemed to rubbish their involvement in Skins, which got our backs up a little bit."

They seemed to be stressing over the fact they'd never watched the show. But whatever. They're a good band and they seem to be doing really well."

Skins Creater Talks Finale & Third Series!
The rumours are true. The entire Skins cast has been axed in favour of younger models (oh, what a cruel and fickle world this is, etc. etc.). This means that next week's episode - Monday, 10pm, E4 - will be the last we see of Tony, Michelle, Sid et al. Boo! It's also the last we'll see of Cassie. Hurrah! But why have the gang been ditched? What can we expect from the new breed? And WHY was Chris killed off? Skins co-creator Jamie Brittain tells all.

What can viewers expect from the final episode?

"It's all about goodbyes. It's about saying goodbye to your friends and the things you're going to leave behind. It's sort of a poem about the end of teenage life. It's a very pretty and beautiful episode."

But it's also a sad episode. What made you decide to kill off Chris?

"It seemed like it was the right thing to do. It was a very sad thing to do, and obviously for the actor it's very difficult, but we show teenage life in its good parts and bad parts. Friends do die, horrible things do happen to teenagers, and how they cope with that is really interesting. We wanted to introduce that element into the show to give it some realism."

It's been a much darker series in general though, hasn't it?

"Personally, I much preferred the second series to the first. I think it's much more sophisticated and complex. Some of the fans have said they don't like the dark side, although generally the reaction has been quite positive. The cast do come out the other side and there is still fun stuff in there. And it's funny! We try not to make it too dark."

Why did you decide to get rid of the entire cast?

"I think the decision was made when the show first began, really. It just seemed like the logical thing to do. The show is about kids aged 16 to 18 and the time they spend at college. It was kind of natural that we were going to change the cast round every two years, because it's those two years that we really focus on. We didn't really want to do a show where they all go off to university. The show's very much about teenage life and not university life."

Did the cast always know they had a limited lifespan?

"I'm not sure if they were aware of it from the start, but most of them were on two-year contracts, so they knew they were going to be there for two years for sure and beyond that was unsure. We told them as soon as we'd really decided, because we didn't know that we were going to get a second series or how certain things were going to go down. We told them around about when series two was commissioned. They were sad, but you know, it's all very exciting for them because they get to go off and do different stuff. They're all getting exciting new parts."

There have been rumours that the new series will focus on Effy and her gang, and the final scene of this series would seem to support that. Is it true?

"Obviously I don't want to reveal too much, but Effy definitely will be in series three. I don't want to say she'll be the focus or the main character, because we don't really do that, but she'll definitely be in series three and will be heavily featured, yes."

Effy has an obvious link with Tony, so does that mean the current cast could make guest appearances?

"I think it's possible, but I don't know how possible. These young guys want to move on and do different stuff and I'm not sure they'll want to be tied down to Skins. Also we're about telling stories about the individual characters. Just thinking about it, I don't know how much it would bring to these [new] characters to have Anwar or Cassie just suddenly turn up. I just can't quite see what the benefit of that would be, other than for them to say 'hi'. We haven't ruled it out but I think it's unlikely."

How's production on the new series coming along?

"Well we haven't actually been commissioned yet, as far as I know. But if we are then we'll have to begin filming in 13 weeks from now, so we've already started working on it. At the moment I'm writing episode two of the new series, which is based on a male character. It's very exciting, it's a good, fun episode."

How different will the new cast be? Will it be just new actors playing similar characters?

"Yeah, it will be quite different. Obviously people will see some similarities and that's unfortunate, but we're trying really hard to have a new, fresh, different group of people who are apart from the first lot of characters. So we've got a villainous character this time, which I'm really excited about. He's a real nasty piece of work - whilst Tony was almost the villain in the first series, now we've got this crazy, nasty character who's really good fun to write for. There's loads of interesting characters: there are going to be twins, I can say that, and also a character from Eastern Europe."

And how are the auditions going?

"We've got a website, skinslife.com, and it's all being run from there. We had an open audition in Bristol last month, which about 1500 people turned up to, and there's going to be another one in London later this month. We're giving everyone who wants to come along the chance."
